Roland-Garros: Swiatek eases past Raducanu to make 21st consecutive Grand Slam third round
The defending champion had no trouble against the Brit.

Pole Iga Swiatek, the No 5 seed, defeated Emma Raducanu 6-1, 6-2 to move into the third round of Roland-Garros at Roland-Garros in Paris on Wednesday.
The defending champion has now reached 21 consecutive Grand Slam third rounds, the only player to do so since 2020 – with Novak Djokovic second-best with 18 third-round appearances at the last 21 Grand Slam events.
The Pole extends her head-to-head lead over Raducanu to 5-0, winning all 10 sets played against the 2021 women’s singles US Open champion.
“From the beginning, I knew what I wanted to do, so I just did it, Swiatek said. “I had a good time on the court, and I felt the game pretty well, so I just went for it.”
Swiatek easy against Raducanu
Swiatek had already defeated Raducanu convincingly at the Australian Open earlier this year (6-1, 6-0) and has a strong track record against the 2021 US Open champion.
“Well, there are players that just have the ball that it’s for some of us it’s a little bit easier, others don’t like it, Swiatek highlighted. You know, there are some players that, I don’t know, you just kind of know what you’re going to do a little bit.”
“It’s a kind of matchup. That’s why in tennis sometimes it’s hard to judge everything, like, players’ shape and everything. I know Emma can also play great tennis, because like when we played in Stuttgart, it was, like, pretty intense and tight. I was ready for everything. And I’m happy that I was focused on myself to just kind of play my game and then lead with it.”
Raducanu said : “Like, you just don’t really feel like there is that much space on the court, and certain moments you overhit, because yeah, you just feel constant pressure. I definitely think, like, I can improve certain areas of my game to maybe make me feel like I have less holes.”
Swiatek, ranked No 5, will play Romanian Jaqueline Cristian next.
