Roland-Garros: Bublik makes improbable comeback to upset de Minaur

Kazakh Alexander Bublik overhauled the situation against Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 9 seed, 2-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the third round of Roland-Garros at Roland-Garros in Paris on Thursday.

The victory was Bublik’s first over the Australian, having lost all three prior meetings. Additionally, it was just the third time that the world No 62 had come back from a two-set deficit in his career – having previously done so against Jakub Mensik at Wimbledon in 2024 and Thomas Fabbiano at the US Open in 2019).

De Minaur suffered his third defeat after having a two-set lead, following those against Marin Cilic at the 2018 US Open and against Cristian Garin at Wimbledon in 2022.

The Australian will drop 350 points after having reached the quarter-finals at last year’s edition.

Bublik, ranked No 62, will play Portuguese qualifier Henrique Rocha next.

Ahead of his victory, the Kazakh won against Australian James Duckworth (6-2, 6-4, 6-4).

De Minaur, ranked No 9, beat Serb Laslo Djere (6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (6)) in the previous round of the Roland-Garros 2025.
