No 15 seed Frances Tiafoe reached the last 16 of Roland-Garros by winning against No 23 seed Sebastian Korda 7-6 (6), 6-3, 6-4.

Tiafoe’s run to the fourth round at Roland-Garros 2025 is his best performance at the French Open to date. Prior to 2025, Tiafoe had never advanced past the third round in Paris.

Frances Tiafoe still hasn’t dropped any sets, defeating Russian Roman Safiullin (6-4, 7-5, 6-4) and Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta (6-4, 6-3, 6-1) in the previous rounds.

“I thought it was a really good level from both guys, especially in the first set, Tiafoe said. “Sebi is a hell of a player, man. Can hit all the shots. His serve has improved a lot.”

Tiafoe’s consistency

The opening set against Korda was tightly contested, with neither player managing a service break. Tiafoe edged out Korda in the tiebreak 8–6, taking a lead that would be decisive.

“It was high level there in the first set, Tiafoe stated. “I was struggling on my serve, serving at a really low clip. A lot of second serves. Did a good job just kind of staying in there. I had some breakpoints, some long games. Just did a good job of staying in there and played a good breaker. Got tested there at the end.”

In the second set, Tiafoe secured the first break of the match, allowing him to take control and win the set 6–3. Tiafoe maintained his momentum in the third set, breaking Korda’s serve and closing out the match with a 6–4 set win.

“I felt like after the first I really took off energy-wise, Tiafoe added. “I thought I started hitting the ball much better, started returning much better. Things kind of just went my way. Really happy. Not getting broken is always great.”

Tiafoe, ranked No 16, will face German Daniel Altmaier next.

Earlier in the tournament, Korda, ranked No 23, defeated Italian Luciano Darderi (6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2) and Jenson Brooksby (6-1, 6-2, 7-6 (2)).
