Wimbledon: Musetti crashes out to Basilashvili

Lorenzo Musetti, the No 7 seed, fell to Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Tuesday afternoon.

The seventh seed was defending 790 ranking points as a result of making the last four in 2024, where he lost to Novak Djokovic.

It must be said that Musetti seemed far from 100%, perhaps still struggling with the leg issues which plagued him during his Roland-Garros semi-final against Carlos Alcaraz.

“I’m extremely happy, especially because I beat Lorenzo (Musetti),” said Basilashvili.

“The conditions were very difficult, the sun was beating down hard, and I’m glad I didn’t suffer physically. It was a very physical match.

“I had a pretty good career, but I had to play Futures because my ranking dropped and I couldn’t get wild cards.

“At my age, doing these kind of thing makes me very proud of myself, and I’m looking forward to my second round, of course.”
