Italian Flavio Cobolli, the No 22 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon by edging out Croat Marin Cilic 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3) at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Monday.
Cobolli, ranked No 24, will play the winner of the match between Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 11 seed, and Serb Novak Djokovic, the No 6 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, the Italian beat Czech Jakub Mensik, the No 15 seed (6-2, 6-4, 6-2), English wildcard Jack Pinnington Jones (6-1, 7-6 (6), 6-2) and Kazakh qualifier Beibit Zhukayev (6-3, 7-6 (7), 6-1).
Cilic, ranked No 83, won against Spaniard Jaume Munar (6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4), Englishman Jack Draper, the No 4 seed (6-4, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4) and Belgian Raphael Collignon (6-3, 6-4, 6-3) in the previous rounds of The Championships.
