Toronto Masters: Defending champion Popyrin reaches the third round
Alexei Popyrin beat Nicolas Arseneault 7-6 (7), 6-3 on Tuesday evening and will play the winner of the match between Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 10 seed, and Czech lucky loser Dalibor Svrcina in the next round

Australian Alexei Popyrin, the No 18 seed and defending champion at the Canadian Open, reached the third round of the Toronto Masters by winning against Canadian wildcard Nicolas Arseneault 7-6 (7), 6-3 at the Aviva Centre on Tuesday evening.
Popyrin, ranked No 26, will face the winner of the match between Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 10 seed, and Czech lucky loser Dalibor Svrcina next.
In the previous round of the Rogers Cup, Arseneault defeated Frenchman Valentin Royer (6-3, 7-6 (4)).
