ASB Classic: Mensik wins the final

Czech Jakub Mensik, the No 3 seed, beat Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 7 seed, 6-3, 7-6 (7) to win the ASB Classic trophy on Saturday night.
This is Mensik’s 2nd ATP Tour title after winning his first at ATP Masters 1000 Miami last March. At
20 years and 4 months, he is the youngest men’s champion in Auckland since del Potro, 20, in 2009. He’ll be World No.17 on Monday.
In the previous rounds, Mensik, ranked No 18 at the start of the season, defeated Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (7-6 (9), 4-6, 6-1), Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (6-4, 6-2) and Serb qualifier Hamad Medjedovic (6-1, 3-6, 6-3).
Baez, ranked No 43, defeated American Marcos Giron (6-1, 6-4), American Ben Shelton, the top seed (7-5, 6-3), American Jenson Brooksby (7-5, 6-0) and American qualifier Emilio Nava (4-6, 7-5, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
