Alert: Machac beats Davidovich Fokina in Acapulco final

No 8 seed Tomas Machac defeated Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-6 (6), 6-2 to lift the Mexican Open trophy at the Arena GNP Seguros in Acapulco on Saturday night.

Earlier in the tournament, Machac — ranked No 25 — beat Jakub Mensik (6-4, 2-6, 6-3), German wild card Daniel Altmaier (7-6 (3), 6-1), American qualifier Learner Tien (6-3, 7-5) and American Brandon Nakashima (6-4, 1-6, 6-4).

Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 48, advanced to the final by beating Italian lucky loser Mattia Bellucci (1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2), American Frances Tiafoe, the No 7 seed (6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3), Mexican wild card Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez (6-2, 6-2) and Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 9 seed (7-6 (3), 7-6 (1)).
