Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 10 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters by defeating Canadian lucky loser Gabriel Diallo 6-4, 6-3 at the Caja Mágica on Thursday evening.
Musetti, ranked No 11, will face No 5 seed Jack Draper next.
In the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament, the Italian won against Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry (7-6 (3), 6-2), Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 17 seed (7-5, 7-6 (3)) and Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 6 seed (6-4, 6-2).
Diallo, ranked No 78, won against Belgian Zizou Bergs (6-1, 6-2), Pole lucky loser Kamil Majchrzak (7-5, 4-6, 6-4), Cameron Norrie (2-6, 6-4, 6-4) and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 15 seed (5-7, 7-6 (7), 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
