Tsitsipas battles past Rublev to reach Astana final; plays Djokovic or Medvedev for title

Greek third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas advanced to his sixth final of 2022 when he came from a set down to beat Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the semi-finals of the Astana Open on Saturday.

Tsitsipas, ranked No 6, will face the winner of the match between Serb Novak Djokovic, the No 4 seed, and Russian Daniil Medvedev, the second seed, next.

Tsitsipas is chasing his third title of 2022, having won on clay in Monte-Carlo and on grass in Mallorca.

The Greek won against Kazakh wildcard Mikhail Kukushkin (6-3, 6-4), Italian qualifier Luca Nardi (7-6 (2), 7-6 (3)) and Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 7 seed (7-6 (8), 6-3) in the previous rounds.

Earlier in the tournament, Rublev, ranked No 9, beat Serb qualifier Laslo Djere (6-4, 6-3), Chinese qualifier Zhizhen Zhang (6-3, 6-2) and Frenchman Adrian Mannarino (6-1, 6-2).
