Holger Rune has won his first tennis match since Wimbledon over two months ago beating struggling Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 6-4 to move into the second round of the China Open at the Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing.

It was an intriguing encounter on paper, as two supremely talented young prospects currently enduring difficult patches of form, met in Asia for the first time.

Ultimately, however, the Dane proved he is the player who is very much back on track, with a polished and professional performance against a subdued Auger-Aliassime.

Rune, ranked No 4, will play Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov next after he came through his first-round match against Mackenzie McDonald of the United States.
