China Open: Sinner overcomes sickness, Dimitrov, to book blockbusting semi-final against Alcaraz

Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 6 seed, beat Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to reach the semi-finals of the China Open at the Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing on Monday afternoon.
It was a tight affair against Dimitrov, with both players similar statistically. Sinner’s ability to save seven of eight break points was the difference in the end, with the Italian winning in three sets.
Sinner, ranked No 7, will play Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, next.
The 22-year-old Italian won against Daniel Evans (6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3) and Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (6-2, 6-0) earlier in the tournament. In the previous rounds of the Beijing tournament, Dimitrov, ranked No 19, defeated American wildcard Mackenzie McDonald (2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1) and Dane Holger Rune, the No 3 seed (6-3, 7-5).
