Cincinnati Masters: Zverev beats Medvedev to book spot in quarter-finals

German Alexander Zverev, the No 16 seed, edged out Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 3 seed, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to move into the last 8 of the Cincinnati Masters at the Linder Tennis Family Center on Thursday evening.

Zverev had lost his previous three matches on the bounce to Medvedev.

Zverev, ranked No 17, will play the winner of the match between American wildcard Mackenzie McDonald and Frenchman Adrian Mannarino next.

Earlier in the tournament, the German won against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (6-2, 6-2) and Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (7-5, 6-4).

Medvedev, ranked No 3, beat Italian Lorenzo Musetti (6-3, 6-2) in the previous round of the Cincy Open.
