Australian Max Purcell, the No 6 seed, advanced to the second round of the Dallas Open by edging out American wildcard Mitchell Krueger 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (3) at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Monday night.
The Aussie made matters hard for himself, giving up a comfortable spot at 5-4, 40-15 on serve in the deciding set. However, he was able to graft his way through and win in a tiebreak, booking a second round meeting against either Nicolas Moreno De Alboran or Marcos Giron next.
