Russian Daniil Medvedev, the second seed, advanced to the final of the Almaty Open by winning against Australian qualifier James Duckworth 6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-2 at Almaty Arena on Saturday.
He thus qualified for the 40th ATP final of his career, his second in 2025, after losing in Halle last June. Daniil Medvedev had not reached the final of a hard-court tournament since Indian Wells 2024!
The Russian will aim on Sunday to capture his first title since his triumph on the clay of the 2023 Rome Masters 1000.
“I think the level was incredible today, from both me and my opponent,” said Medvedev. “In the tie-break, I could have played better, but it happens. Throughout the match, there were some amazing points from both of us, so I’m really happy to be able to win this match.”
Medvedev, ranked No 14, will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Corentin Moutet, the No 8 seed, and American Alex Michelsen, the No 6 seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Russian beat Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (7-5, 6-2) and Australian Adam Walton (7-5, 7-6).
