De Minaur cruises past Medvedev to reach last eight in Monte-Carlo

Australian Alex de Minaur reached the quarter-finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters for the second year in a row as he beat Russian Daniil Medvedev 6-2, 6-2 at the Monte-Carlo Country Club on Thursday.
De Minaur, ranked No 10, will play the winner of the match between Chilean Alejandro Tabilo and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 15 seed, next.
“It’s taken me a while in my career, but I finally understand what I need to do to be effective on this surface,” De Minaur said. “I can be dangerous on this surface, so I’m very happy to play here and start off the clay swing with some good matches. All my energy and all my effort now goes to tomorrow.”
The Australian beat Tomas Machac (3-6, 6-0, 6-3) ahead of his victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Medvedev, ranked No 11, edged out Karen Khachanov (7-5, 4-6, 6-4) and defeated Frenchman Alexandre Muller (7-6 (6), 5-7, 6-2).
