Andrey Rublev experienced the highs and lows of tennis on Tuesday as he was beaten in the first round at the Dubai Open, knocked out 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) by French qualifier Quentin Halys.

The third seed had no time to celebrate his 17th ATP Tour title in Doha, secured on Saturday, and insult was added to injury as he was edged out by the Frenchman at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Tuesday afternoon.

Halys, ranked No 77, will play Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut next. It’s the first top 10 win of his career.
