Dubai Open: Medvedev cruises past Davidovich Fokina to reach semi-finals

Daniil Medvedev beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the eighth seed, 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the last four of the Dubai Open at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre.

The Russian broke twice without reply in the first set before racing into a 4-0 lead in the second. He was pegged back by a stubborn Davidovich Fokina fightback to 4-2, but the Spaniard could not make it count as Medvedev held serve from there to take the match.

Medvedev, top seed and defending champion in Dubai, will play the winner of the match between Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 3 seed, and Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 5 seed, next.

The Russian defeated Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko (6-3, 7-5) and Italian Lorenzo Sonego (3-6, 6-3, 6-3) ahead of his victory.

In the previous rounds of the Dubai tournament, Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 24, beat Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (6-3, 4-6, 6-1) and Jakub Mensik (7-6 (7), 1-0 ret.).
