Florence Open: McDonald books spot in quarter-finals

American Mackenzie McDonald advanced to the quarter-finals of the Florence Open by beating Italian wildcard Francesco Passaro 6-4, 7-5 at the Palazzo Wanny on Thursday afternoon.

McDonald, ranked No 79, will play the winner of the match between Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 3 seed, and Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles next.

The American won against No 6 seed Jenson Brooksby (6-4, 4-6, 6-1) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round, Passaro, ranked No 126, won against Chinese lucky loser Zhizhen Zhang (7-6 (4), 7-6 (6)).
