Fritz edges Auger-Aliassime in Stuttgart for first final of year
Taylor Fritz defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-6 (5) on Saturday. He’ll play the winner of the match between German Alexander Zverev, the top seed, and American Ben Shelton, the No 3 seed, for the title

American Taylor Fritz, the second seed, advanced to the final of the Stuttgart Open by defeating Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 4 seed, 6-4, 7-6 (5) at Tennisclub Weissenhof Stuttgart on Saturday.
The American didn’t face a single break point as he reached his first final of 2025. He’ll play top seed Alexander Zverev, who ousted American Ben Shelton, the No 3 seed.
“The clay-court season wasn’t the best for me, so I came here more motivated to start the grass season off well,” Fritz said in quotes used on the ATP Tour website. “I’m super happy that I’ve been able to start it off with a final.
“I’m locked in and ready to go. Once I start winning a couple of matches on grass and start feeling good, all the other things start clicking for me.”
Ahead of his victory, the American won against Frenchman Quentin Halys (6-3, 7-6 (6)) and Hungarian qualifier Marton Fucsovics (6-3, 6-4).
Auger-Aliassime, ranked No 29, won against Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (6-4, 6-4) and German wildcard Justin Engel (7-6 (3), 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
