Chilean wild card Cristian Garin advanced to the second round of the Chile Open by edging out Argentinian qualifier Juan Pablo Ficovich 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the Club Universidad Católica de San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago de Chile on Monday night.
Garin, ranked No 147, will next face the winner of a match between Frenchman Hugo Gaston and Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No 5 seed.
