Geneva Open: Khachanov advances to last eight

Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 4 seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Geneva Open when Japanese Kei Nishikori retired on Wednesday afternoon at Tennis Club de Genève, Parc des Eaux-Vives.

Khachanov, ranked No 24, led 7-5, 2-5 when Nishikori, ranked No 62, pulled out on Wednesday at Tennis Club de Genève, Parc des Eaux-Vives.

The Russian will play the winner of the match between Austrian qualifier Sebastian Ofner and Portuguese Nuno Borges next.

In the previous round of the Geneva tournament, the 35-year-old Japanese edged out American Learner Tien (4-6, 6-4, 6-4).
