Hall of Fame Open: Isner beats top seed Paul, moves into semi-finals

John Isner out served Tommy Paul 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) on Friday evening and will play Alex Michelsen in the Hall of Fame Open semi-finals

John Isner overcame top seed Tommy Paul 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) to reach the semi-finals of the Hall of Fame Open at the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum in Newport on Friday evening.

In classic Isner style, the match went to a third set tiebreak, where the American outmuscled his compatriot to win the breaker 7-4 and claim the win.

Isner, ranked No 126, will play Alex Michelsen next.

John Isner beat Australian qualifier Alex Bolt (6-4, 2-6, 6-3) and Frenchman Corentin Moutet, the No 8 seed (6-3, 6-4) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the Newport tournament, Paul, ranked No 14, won against wildcard Ethan Quinn (6-4, 6-2).
