Japanese Kei Nishikori, the No 8 seed, beat American qualifier Mitchell Krueger 6-4, 6-2 to reach the second round of the Houston Open at River Oaks Country Club on Tuesday.
Nishikori took only 75 minutes to eliminate Krueger. The Japanese did it on the back of four aces and three break-point conversions.
Nishikori, ranked No 66, will face American Christopher Eubanks next.
