No 4 seed Brandon Nakashima won against Mackenzie McDonald 6-1, 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals of the Houston Open at River Oaks Country Club on Thursday.
Nakashima, ranked No 33, will face the winner of the match between Japanese Kei Nishikori, the No 8 seed, and American Christopher Eubanks next.
McDonald, ranked No 100, edged out Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-4) in the previous round of the Houston tournament.
