Indian Wells: Rublev avenges Doha loss to Lehecka to reach third round

Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 6 seed, reached the third round of the Indian Wells Masters by defeating Jiri Lehecka and avenging her loss to the Czech in Doha last month.

The Russian won 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 15 minutes at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Friday evening.

The win improves Rublev’s record against Lehecka to 2-1. “We had a tough match in Doha,” Rublev said after his win, “He beat me and I wanted to see if I could take revenge. In the end I was able to win today, so I’m really happy.”

The Russian, ranked No 7 in the world, will face Frenchman Ugo Humbert next.

In the previous round of the Indian Wells Tennis Masters, Lehecka, ranked No 47, had defeated Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (7-6 (4), 7-5).
