Japan Open: Ruud stunned by Giron in second round

Marcos Giron won against Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday and will face Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 8 seed, in the next round

American qualifier Marcos Giron defeated Norwegian Casper Ruud, the second seed, 6-3, 6-4 to move into the quarter-finals of the Japan Open at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Wednesday.

Giron, ranked No 79, will face Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 8 seed, next.

The American won against Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (7-6 (14), 4-6, 6-1) in the previous round of the Tokyo Open.

In the first round of the Tokyo Open, Ruud, ranked No 8, won against Japanese wildcard Yosuke Watanuki (7-6 (6), 6-3).
