Japan Open: Moriya through to second round

Hiroki Moriya won against Yuta Shimizu 6-1, 6-3 on Tuesday and will play the winner of the match between Australian James Duckworth and American Taylor Fritz, the No 3 seed, in the next round

Lucky loser Hiroki Moriya reached the second round of the Japan Open by beating qualifier Yuta Shimizu 6-1, 6-3 at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Tuesday.

Moriya, ranked No 253, will face the winner of the match between Australian James Duckworth and American Taylor Fritz, the No 3 seed, next.
