American Brandon Nakashima advanced to the second round of the Japan Open by winning against Japanese wildcard Shintaro Mochizuki 6-3, 6-2 at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Monday night.

Nakashima, ranked No 47, will face the winner of the match between Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis and Croat Borna Coric, the No 9 seed, next.
