Nakashima celebrates birthday with win to reach Los Cabos quarter-finals

American Brandon Nakashima, the No 6 seed, reached the last eight of the Los Cabos Open by defeating Australian qualifier Max Purcell 6-3, 6-3 at the Cabo del Mar Sports Center on Wednesday.
Nakashima, ranked No 61, turned 21 years old on the day and celebrated his birthday after his win on the tournament site.
The young American will next face fourth seeded Serb Miomir Kecmanovic.
Nakashima had won against Japanese qualifier Kaichi Uchida (7-6 (1), 6-2) in his first round this week.
In the previous round of the Open de Los Cabos, Purcell, ranked No 234, edged out Swiss Henri Laaksonen (6-3, 3-6, 6-4).
