Madrid Masters: Hurkacz eases past Altmaier to move into last 16

Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 8 seed, defeated German Daniel Altmaier 6-4, 7-6 (2) to advance to the last 16 of the Madrid Masters at the Caja Magica.

Hurkacz, ranked No 9, will play the winner of the match between Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 18 seed, and American Taylor Fritz, the No 12 seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the Pole won against Jack Draper (6-1, 7-5).

Altmaier, ranked No 61, won against Spanish wildcard Martin Landaluce (6-1, 7-5) and Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 31 seed (6-2, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament.
