Tenth seed Karen Khachanov reached the last quarter-finals of the Madrid Masters by winning against No 5 seed Andrey Rublev 7-6 (8), 6-4 at the Caja Magica on Tuesday.
Khachanov, ranked No 12, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, and German Alexander Zverev, the No 13 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, Karen Khachanov defeated Brazilian Thiago Monteiro (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) and Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, the No 20 seed (7-5, 4-6, 6-3).
Rublev, ranked No 6, won against Swiss Stan Wawrinka (7-5, 6-4) and Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, the No 28 seed (6-2, 7-5) in the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament.
