Madrid Masters: Shapovalov through to third round

Canadian Denis Shapovalov advanced to the third round of the Madrid Masters by beating Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No 26 seed, 7-6 (3), 6-3 at the Caja Magica on Friday.

Shapovalov, ranked No 132, will play the winner of the match between Croat Borna Coric and German Alexander Zverev, the No 4 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Madrid tournament, the Canadian won against Argentinian Facundo Diaz Acosta (6-4, 3-6, 6-3).
