Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena edged out American qualifier Nicolas Moreno De Alboran 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to move into the semi-finals of the Marrakech Open at Royal Tennis Club de Marrakech on Friday.
Carballes Baena, ranked No 64, will play the winner of the match between Italian qualifier Fabio Fognini and Russian Pavel Kotov next.
The Spaniard benefited from the abandonment of Italian qualifier Matteo Gigante (6-2, 2-0) and won against No 3 seed Daniel Evans (6-4, 7-6 (3)) ahead of his victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Moreno De Alboran, ranked No 157, defeated Argentinian Facundo Diaz Acosta, the No 5 seed (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) and Belgian qualifier David Goffin (6-3, 6-4).
