Tiafoe records 50th career Masters 1000 victory to reach third round in Miami

American Frances Tiafoe, the No 16 seed, advanced to the third round of the Miami Masters by defeating Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-5, 7-6 (5) at the Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.

It took Tiafoe two hours to overcome Davidovich Fokina, who committed 31 unforced errors during the match.

The American hit ten aces, 22 winners and broke his Spanish opponent twice to record his 50th career Masters 1000 victory, also saving five out of six break points on his serve.

Tiafoe, ranked No 17, will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 17 seed, and Canadian lucky loser Gabriel Diallo next.

In the previous round of the Miami Open, Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 39, won against German Jan-Lennard Struff (7-6 (3), 6-3).
