Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 15 seed, reached the second round of the Monte-Carlo Masters by beating Chilean Nicolas Jarry 6-3, 6-4 at the Monte-Carlo Country Club on Tuesday.
Dimitrov, ranked No 18, will face Monégasque wildcard Valentin Vacherot next.
