Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 10 seed, defeated Spanish qualifier Roberto Bautista Agut 7-5, 7-6 (4) to advance to the last 16 of the Monte-Carlo Masters at Monte-Carlo Country Club.
Hurkacz, ranked No 8, will face the winner of the match between Chilean Alejandro Tabilo and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 8 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, the Pole edged out Jack Draper (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (2)).
Bautista Agut, ranked No 90, won against Argentinian lucky loser Facundo Diaz Acosta (6-2, 6-4) in the previous round of the Monte-Carlo tournament.
