Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko, the No 6 seed, won against Frenchman Gregoire Barrere 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-3 to advance to the last eight of the Montpellier Open at the Sud de France Arena.
Shevchenko, ranked No 59, will play Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the second seed, next.
The Kazakh edged out qualifier Dalibor Svrcina (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) in the previous round of the Montpellier tournament.
In the previous round of the Montpellier tournament, Barrere, ranked No 104, beat qualifier Ugo Blanchet (6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-2).
