Monfils tops Cressy to reach sweet 16 in Montreal

Frenchman Gael Monfils, the No 17 seed, beat American Maxime Cressy 7-6 (10), 7-6 (6) to reach the last 16 of the Montreal Masters at Stade IGA on Wednesday evening.
Monfils, ranked No 20, will play the winner of the match between qualifier Jack Draper and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 3 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, the 35-year-old Frenchman won against Spaniard Pedro Martinez (7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-2).
Cressy, ranked No 31, defeated Russian Aslan Karatsev (6-4, 6-4) in the previous round of the Coupe Rogers.
