Musetti joins Rune in withdrawing from Rio Open
Lorenzo Musetti is out of the Rio Open due to a calf injury that also plagued him in Buenos Aires. Musetti had been scheduled to be the No 2 seed this week.
Lorenzo Musetti withdrew from the Rio Open on Monday, citing a calf injury. The second-seeded Musetti has been replaced in the draw by lucky loser Jaime Faria, who will face qualifier Tomas Barrios Vera in the first round on Tuesday.
“Unfortunately, I had to leave the tournament this time,” read a statement from the Italian. “My calf is still not recovered. I was a bit unlucky. I thank all the Brazilian fans, and I hope to see everyone soon.”
Musetti, who pulled out of last week’s Argentina Open prior to a quarter-final match against , also posted on social media.
“Hi, everyone. Unfortunately, I have to inform you that I won’t be able to play in the Rio tournament either. The medical exams I underwent this morning confirmed that the injury I sustained in Buenos Aires is still present. I’m really sorry because I love playing in Brazil, especially in Rio. A big hug to everyone, especially my fans.”
“Lorenzo Musetti underwent examinations on Monday and, unfortunately, had to pull out of the Rio Open 2025,” tournament organisers confirmed in a statement.
