No 5 seed Jack Draper won against Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor 6-3, 6-4 to reach the third round of the Madrid Masters at the Caja Mágica.
Draper, ranked No 6, will play Italian Matteo Berrettini, the No 30 seed, next.
Griekspoor, ranked No 34, defeated qualifier Vit Kopriva (6-1, 6-4) in the previous round of the Madrid tournament.
