Daniil Medvedev has struck again! While he’s world-renowned for his incredible tennis skills, having won the US Open 2021 and been the world’s No 1 player, the Russian is also appreciated for his on-court antics and cult retorts.

After his famous “I know what a hard court is, I’m a specialist”, his victory dance against Stefanos Tsitsipas in Rome last year and his sallies with the US Open crowd in 2019, he once again delighted tennis fans in Madrid on Monday.

Facing Sebastian Korda in the third round of the Masters 1000, the Russian became slightly irritated at a change of ends in the second set, as a few drops of rain made their appearance, before unleashing a retort to the umpire that is sure to become cult.

“You said it’s not your decision. Call me someone whose decision it is,” Medvedev asked the umpire.

“They take the decision based on the weather,” came the response.

“Who they? The Illuminati?”

Fortunately, the sun came back out so Medvedev could continue his quest to the quarter-finals – eventually winning 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-3.
