Returning Nadal adds Barcelona to his 2024 schedule
The 37-year-old will use Barcelona as part of his preparations for a tilt at at a record 15th French Open title
He has not even set foot back on the competitive court yet but it looks like Rafael Nadal is planning ahead as he prepares to hit the ground running in 2024.
The 37-year-old, who is due to return from a year out through injury when he plays in the Brisbane International at the turn of the year, is already thinking about his beloved clay.
Should all go well in Brisbane and then at the Australian Open, Nadal will then turn his sights to the French Open, where he has won the title a record 14 times.
The Monte-Carlo Masters, where he usually kicks things off, would be the obvious place to see him first but one thing’s already guaranteed; he will play in the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell the following week.
Nadal has almost as special a relationship with the Barcelona event – which will run from April 13, 2024 – as he does Roland-Garros, having won the title 12 times.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion had previously hinted that 2024 is likely to be his last year on Tour. But if things go well in Australia, with no more injury concerns, then he may well play for longer than previously thought.
