Rio Open: Defending champion Norrie marches into quarters

Cameron Norrie won against Tomas Barrios Vera 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday evening and will face Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild in the next round

Defending champion Cameron Norrie continued his love affair with the Rio Open as he crushed Chilean Tomas Barrios Vera 6-1, 6-1 to move into the quarter-finals at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday evening.

Norrie, ranked No 23, will play Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild next, having opened his account in Rio this year by seeing off Hugo Dellien (6-3, 6-2).

The Briton beat Carlos Alcaraz to win the title in Rio 12 months ago.

In the previous round of the Rio tournament, Barrios Vera, ranked No 120, defeated Brazilian wildcard Gustavo Heide (7-5, 6-3).
