Rome Masters: Medvedev beats Zverev, advances to last eight

Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 3 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters by defeating German Alexander Zverev, the No 19 seed, 6-2, 7-6 (3) at the Foro Italico on Tuesday.

Medvedev, ranked No 3, will face German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann next.

The Russian won against Finn Emil Ruusuvuori (6-4, 6-2) and Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles, the No 31 seed (3-6, 6-1, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Italian Open.

Earlier in the tournament, Zverev, ranked No 22, edged out Belgian David Goffin (5-7, 6-3, 6-4) and beat American J.J. Wolf (6-4, 7-5).
