Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 8 seed, defeated Croat Borna Coric 6-3, 6-4 to reach the second round of the Rotterdam Open at the Rotterdam Ahoy on Tuesday.
Bublik, ranked No 23, will play Canadian Milos Raonic next.
