American Taylor Fritz, the No 7 seed, defeated Dane Holger Rune, the No 12 seed, 6-1, 6-2 to move into the last eight of the Shanghai Masters at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Fritz, ranked No 7, will face the winner of the match between Belgian David Goffin and German Alexander Zverev, the second seed, next.
The American won against French qualifier Terence Atmane (7-6 (4), 7-6 (5)) and Japanese qualifier Yosuke Watanuki (6-3, 6-4) ahead of his victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Rune, ranked No 14, beat Italian Matteo Berrettini (4-6, 6-4, 6-3) and No 33 seed Jiri Lehecka (6-4, 7-5).
