Jannik Sinner and Darren Cahill will end their coaching partnership at the end of the 2026 season, the Italian’s management announced in a press release on Friday. Former world No. 2 Magnus Norman will join Sinner’s team at the beginning of December, working alongside Simone Vagnozzi.

The Australian joined Sinner’s team in June 2022. Working with Vagnozzi, he helped the Italian win five Grand Slam titles and two ATP Finals, and complete the Career Golden Masters by winning all nine ATP Masters 1000 events. Sinner reached world No. 1 for the first time in June 2024.

“Darren has been an incredibly important part of my journey,” Sinner said. “Together with Simone and the whole team, we have achieved things I dreamed of growing up. Winning five Grand Slam titles and reaching world No. 1 together are achievements I will always treasure, but what means just as much is the relationship we have built along the way.”

“I want to thank Darren for his belief in me, his honesty and his dedication,” he added. “He has helped me grow both as a player and as a person, and his guidance will stay with me throughout my career. We have shared so many special moments over the past five years, and while our coaching partnership is coming to an end, our friendship will continue.”

Cahill: “A special honor and privilege”

“Working with Jannik has been a special honor and privilege,” Cahill said. “He’s an amazing young man and a humble dedicated champion that we are all incredibly proud of. Trust, honesty and belief only work when it’s exchanged both ways, and this has been Jannik’s strength as an athlete.”

“I want to thank Jannik, the entire team, and all the fans for welcoming this Aussie into the wonderful Italian family,” he added. “I wish the team nothing but continued success for the coming years.”

Who is Magnus Norman, Wawrinka’s former coach?

Norman, a Swede, reached a career-high No. 2 in 2000, the year he lost the Roland-Garros final to Gustavo Kuerten. As a coach, he worked with Stan Wawrinka from 2013 to 2017, the period in which the Swiss won his three Grand Slam titles, at the 2014 Australian Open, the 2015 Roland-Garros and the 2016 US Open. They worked together again from 2018 to 2020, then reunited in late 2022.

The announcement confirms reports that emerged a week ago in The Times, which named Norman as Cahill’s successor. Sinner’s season is already over: he was ruled out by a knee injury, and has since resumed training in Monte Carlo.
