Frenchman Quentin Halys reached the second round of the Stuttgart Open by edging out Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-7 (6), 7-5, 6-4 at Tennisclub Weissenhof Stuttgart on Tuesday.
Halys, ranked No 47, will play second seed Taylor Fritz next.
