American Frances Tiafoe, the No 3 seed, edged out German Jan-Lennard Struff 4-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (8) to win the Stuttgart Open tournament at Tennis Club Weissenhof on Sunday.

It is Big Foe’s first grass court title, and his third overall. He now owns a title on all three ATP Tour surfaces.

He is now set to rise in the ATP Rankings, currently poised to take a new career-high of world No 10.

Earlier in the tournament, Tiafoe, ranked No 12, beat Czech Jiri Lehecka (7-6 (2), 6-4), Italian Lorenzo Musetti (6-7 (6), 7-6 (4), 6-2) and Hungarian qualifier Marton Fucsovics (6-3, 7-6 (11)).

He will also feature in UTS Los Angeles next month, in a field that includes Nick Kyrgios and “the Hotshot” Taylor Fritz.

Struff, ranked No 24, defeated Chinese Zhizhen Zhang (6-1, 6-4), American Tommy Paul, the No 5 seed (7-6 (4), 7-6 (5)), Frenchman Richard Gasquet (6-4, 7-5) and Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 4 seed (3-6, 6-3, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Stuttgart tournament.
